"Aunt Ruth put a needle in my hand at the age of 8, and I am still cutting
big pieces of fabric into smaller pieces and stitching them together”. That’s how it all started.
Kathleen has a degree in Clothing and Textile Design which led to a career in
Costume Design in University and Community theaters. She started quilting
in the early 1970s but also enjoyed other crafts, including calligraphy, which she taught for more than ten years.
Convinced that she enjoyed teaching more than just calligraphy, she returned to quilting during the mid 1980s.
She has designed quilts and taught quilting for 25 years and still finds the art fascinating. Lecturing and sharing her antique
quilts is a great joy for her as well as teaching. She discovered template rubber stamps when accuracy
became a top priority
and she made a set just for her. Fellow quilters soon asked to buy - and
ByKate was “born”.
